I beg to differ. I would argue that ETC is the fork away from Ethereum. “History is always written by the winners.” If Ethereum Classic took Ethereum’s place, I would completely agree with you. But that a small minority chose not to follow the Ethereum chain is the fork away from the Ethereum chain.
