Finding Gratitude and Joy in the Everyday: Tips and Ideas to Consider
How I try every day to become a better person by improving my relationships, conversations, resiliency, public speaking skills, knowledge, and happiness.
Give more
First and foremost, if you want to improve your relationships, give more. Whether it’s your time, energy, or resources, giving to others is a surefire way to strengthen your bonds with them. By putting others’ needs before your own, you show them that you care and are willing to go out of your way to help them. So next time your child asks for a bedtime story or your spouse wants you to run an errand, make an effort to give them your full attention and support.
Listen more
Next, if you want to improve your conversations, listen more. It’s easy to get caught up in our own thoughts and opinions, but authentic communication comes from actively listening to what the other person has to say. By really hearing them out, you show them that you value their perspective and are open to hearing different viewpoints. So next time you have a conversation with your child or spouse, put your phone away, make eye contact, and truly listen to what they say.
Do more
To build resiliency and grit, do more. Resiliency and grit are not traits that are inherent but rather qualities that are developed over time through hard work and perseverance. The more we do, the more we expose ourselves to challenges and failures, which ultimately help us to become stronger and more resilient. So don’t be afraid to let your children try new things, even if they might fail at first. Encourage them to get back up and keep going, and they’ll develop the grit and determination they need to succeed.
Teach more
To improve your knowledge, teach more. Teaching others not only helps you to solidify your own understanding of a subject, but it also allows you to share your expertise with others. So next time your child asks a question about a topic you know well, take the opportunity to teach them about it. You’ll not only be helping them to learn, but you’ll also be strengthening your own understanding of the subject.
Appreciate more
Lastly, if you want to be happier, appreciate more. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and forget to take a moment to appreciate the things around us. But when we take the time to stop and enjoy the small things, like the sunshine on a beautiful day or a hug from our child, we can find joy and gratitude in even the most mundane moments.
So next time you’re feeling down or stressed, take a moment to appreciate the people and things around you, and you’ll find that you’re much happier.
